Now that the nights are drawing in I have had the opportunity to show off my new Xenon lights (ML) to the public at large.  However this seems to have provoked quite a lot of adverse 'flashing' and even comments from above public.  I have had the lights checked by my local Dealer who reckon theyr'e fine (but don't have MOT st'd testing equipment! i.e. they shone headlights against a wall!!!).  Is it just the 'brightness' of Xenons evoking this response?  Does/have any of you have/d this problem?

Cheers,

Dieter

Yes, I had the same problem in January when I got my car, even went back to the dealer like you did.
He told me that all new cars with Xenon lights are fitted with a self levelling device to compensate for load.
Mine was tested, and found to be OK, despite the fact that I was getting flashed!
I realise since reading your post that I do drive slightly  differently with them, putting my lights on to main beam at every reasonable opportunity, so that oncomers can see them being dipped.
The problem has pretty much gone away.
All you can do is get them checked at the dealers, try my method, wear sunglasses, or sell them to Fuzzer!

It's dealers doing this kind of slap dashcheck that gives us all a bad name.
Go to another dealership and ask the to check the headlight alignment on an M.O.T alignment meter.
Also check the inside of the lens for star bursts, this can fragment the light and dazzle

Final comment!!!

Took car to local MOT test centre and confirmed that lights were set too high.  Phoned Merc Dealer and problem 'sorted' that night.  Not a single 'flash' since.  Why they couldn't have addressed this problem correctly the first time is beyond me!!!
Cheers,
Dieter
