Headlights - left head beam

Hi,

Both of the main beam headlights on my W124 300E work fine but when I go to high beam only the right front light goes on , the left goes dim and blows the fuse.

Does anyone have any suggested starting points for remedying?:-?

Have you tried a new bulb, if it is not the bulb then the wires must be shorting in the lamp holder

Thanks Malcolm, I have tried a new bulb and all of the wiring looks good. I think I may need to take it to a specialist as all of the instrument back lighting has now stopped working as well? I'm going to add a new forum post on this fault to see if anyone has any ideas?

I am not sure of what the lamp control unit 101 in the link does and possibly just the the warning device, but you could unplug it and see if the fuse still blows

We get a few faults with headlamp switches, but not blowing the fuse
