I read somewhere today in the Motoring Media that you MUST (by Law!) switch-on your headlights when it’s raining in Sweden, even in daytime.

But.. (!) I live in the UK. So, my BIG Question is: Do I need to go Online to check the Weather forecast for Stockholm before I pop-down to Waitrose in Weston-super-Mare for a few ‘Essentials’ (Fags, 1966 Vintage Chateauneuf Du-Pape Red Wine, Quails’ Eggs, Beluga Caviar etc) when it’s only slightly ‘Drizzly’ here? Honestly, I don’t want to risk the Wrath of, erm, Whoever. o_O:eek:.

Yours Confusedly & thanks for your kind thoughts & technical / legal advice.

Never mind Sweden, there's a setting in the dashboard menu where you can set dipped headlights to be on whenever the engine is running, and on the basis that it's one stage better than DRL's (as it also puts the rear lights on) and it makes me more visible to other road users, that's exactly how I have both cars set irrespective of weather!!

No.
Weather forecasts are notoriously unreliable.

What you need is either to tune into a Stockholm radio station that has regular weather updates, Radio Garden can do this.
or for a Swede to call you when it starts raining.
Don't rely on a turnip, they can't use a phone.

What does your info say about snow?

Dear Chris, thanks for your kind reply, and much appreciated. :)

I'm sorry: I intended my latest post as a 'Tongue-in-Cheek' & hopefully Humorous (in my case, the deliberate 'mis-interpretation' of the Swedish Law for UK Headlight Rules). That said: I also appreciate that making a 'Humorous' comment or Post here doesn't always easily cross Linguistic boundaries, and can be mis-interpreted for better or worse.

As a Professional Writer & Author in British-English (as opposed to International / American English), I am always conscious that my type of often oblique 'Mischievous Humour' doesn't always 'connect' with or relate to those from other nationalities (despite 'British' / BBC English being arguably the most widely-used language in the world?) and who might take me literally - despite my best intentions to 'flag-up' / signpost my obscure 'Brit' (?) humor as best I can. Hey ho...

All the same, I appreciate your comments and hope that we will be on the same Wavelength again soon. ;)

I can't argue with that. I would only say that my Post was intended to put a Humorous slant on things (UK Vs. Sweden headlamp 'Rules' for better or worse, and in my local context so as to raise a giggle or two). Maybe it missed some who might appreciate some light-hearted Humour?

Yes, this forum is a great source of technical advice & support about all things Mercedes. At the same time, I would respectfully say that it is also sometimes an equally valuable source of Social & / or 'Off-topic' / Non technical Comms between members from all walks of Life and in different circumstances?

But, Hey ho, it doesn't matter in the great Scheme of things?

Volvo's always assume it's raining back 'ome.
Perhaps we should do the same.

Actually, back 'ome 'ere is Buxton, and it usually is.
But it isn't in Sweden, so does that matter?

I just assumed your original post was the result of consuming too much of the 1966 Vintage Chateauneuf Du-Pape you mentioned ;)

I leave my lights on "Auto" so they come on as and when the light gets low

Isn't Buxton one of those places where it can snow at any time of the year too?
Best keep winter tyres on too.

No need to check Stockholm's weather, MB. You're fine in the UK without headlights on for drizzle.

I know this is a bit of an older thread but just wanted to add that in the US you have to have your head lights on when it "rains". Nothing said about drissle, ice, snow, hail etc just rain :)

My 2007 E350 headlights are always on "Auto" but they only come on when the light becomes low. Haven't had them come on automatically when the wipers come on. That being said, my wipers are on Auto too and they come on and off depending on the amount of water ont he windscreen :)

On my car, the lights react to the wipers and come on when there is more than just drizzle.
