I am lucky , I have a perfect memory ..in fact I can't remember the last time I forgot anything.
Just a reminder Malcolm, just in case you forgot
I have sent it
On an old car like this before undertaking this big job I'd chuck a bottle of K-Seal into it & see if it plugged the leaking core.
My son did this on his W201 190D 2.5, with no previous experience. He labelled EVERYTHING as it was unplugged/removed. Dismantled one weekend and parts ordered - total about 150€. Parts arrived during the week and installed and working the following weekend. No leaks. No warm, blue feet.Almost the whole interior dashboard has to come out ....4 hours !!!!
and they build other cars around the heater fanI think that, with the W124, they started with the heater matrix and built the rest of the car around it.

then ship it to the UK, where the dealer dismantle the entire front end of the car, and then builds the blower motor around it.
Poses an issue when it fails 20 years later.
The functionality was great, and the system on this 124 still worked after 35+ years, but the blower motor had a housing that was fitted from the dash side. Compared to the OE systems from 10 years later it was great. The customer opted to cut the housing from the engine side to replace the blower motor, as it wasn't viable to pull the dash!I would be interested in seeing what a Diavia system looks like out of geekiness! I refreshed the factory behr AC on my 190 (condenser, seals, valve, pressure switches, dryer and rebuilt the compressor so almost new!) it’s very well designed and easy to work on. Even the evaporator can be removed from under the bonnet.
Also swapped the 190’s matrix a few years back and it wasn’t a bad job, sounds and looks scary but isn’t. Photograph & label everything and you can’t go wrong really. Can be done in a day without rushing.
