If you don't have any mechanical issues, as your workshop suggests, my only suggestion is to over inflate your front tyres by 3 or 4 pounds pressure. This will help quite a bit. I presume you have standard size tyres fitted? Wider tyres do get heavier in the steering at low speeds.

When the dealers tell you that this is normal for that model of car .. always ask for a test drive in anoither similar car .. or go along and just test drive a few then compare notes..

You could have the variable steering and this can go wrong making parking heavy,,this has been up before, so do ask the dealer to check on this point

    heavy steering c200

Hi thanks for your reply. i have already tried the tyre presure and the power steering flude is ok. some say its a weak power steering pump or faulty sensor. is this a common fault? i have driven a 2002 c class older then mine and the steering feels alot better its like driving a different merc. when driving my 2005 it seems harder more effert is needed. and when turning corners i have to help the weel straighten up this is not normal for any car let alone a merc. any ideas or has any other mercedes drivers had the same problems? thanks

With the VIN number i could check to see if the car does have the speed sensitive steering and the car should be put on STAR to check if you have fault codes C1014, C1501 or C16EF

In the front of the screen, bottom passenger side or on the V5 log book starting WDB203

Do not do it this evening as I am going to bed now

STAR is the MB test set used to program the cars and read off fault codes when something has failed, all the indies and dealers have one,,and even i have one

    Food for thought!

I've just changed my front tyres from NCT5 to Pirelli P6000s (NCTs managed 35K). I have noticed one significant difference since the change in that the steering has become very much lighter. All that has been done is the tyre change, no tracking etc. It would indicate that type of tyre and tread pattern also influence the feel at the wheel.

    Hope this helps!
