I'm looking for some advice on an e-class e250. Could someone point me in the right direction of where to find and post opinions on this car and it's reliability and things to look out for when buying. I am very new to the merc range but I am looking for a family car which will last and is reliable.

Cheers

Ade

Hi and welcome. Are you looking to buy new or used (and if used what age)?

Why don't you put E250 into the search box and see what comes up :) and welcome to the forum Ade :)

I'm looking at 2011 plate with 88k on the clock. It's the
Mercedes-Benz E Class 2.1 E250 TD CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Avantgarde 7G-Tronic 5dr

Any tips? Am I allowed to post a link in here?

As far as I'm aware the 212 e250 is a pretty well sorted car. No problems posting links.

Well sorted car really, yes there have been a few with the OM651 engine timing chain issue but we don’t hear many in comparison to how many have been produced and sold
It’s a nice place to be

Make sure it has had the gearbox ATF and filter changed at 37500 miles , it's easily missed and costs £300

Failed it's MOT this year due to worn front tyres, one with the chords exposed, check a full "Hunter Alignment" has been done or factor £80 into the negotiations.

Passed after as tyres will have been replaced, I would check the tyres all round

That’s a nice motor, quite rare 7 seater too .
As JB says and Wighty, plus check for road rash - Obsidian black looks orrible if it’s not been dealt with (hard not to get some with a 6+ year old car mind)

What's hunter alignment?

Should I be worried if the timing chain hasn't been changed?

Re timing chain you need to heat first start-up in a morning from cold, lift the bonnet and listen for a chain rattle, as far as I know the chain is situated SAAB style at the bulkhead end

Also regarding this engine, can you get it in a C-Class estate?
