As a total non-techy I can't say, but I noticed a big change in my car when I started using a fuel conditioner - the firepower pill. It was recommended by a friend as increasing fuel economy. I didn't notice much of that, but I used to get black smoke whenever I started my car and that's totally vanished.

Your Mercedes
A diesel
Try a dose of injector cleaner before anything else and check things like the air filter and split vacuum pipes.

After that it is probably a duff sensor such as engine temperature or the Lambda sensor in the exhaust.

What exactly were the readings?

lambda 1.01 (0.97-1.03)
the last one looks ok but the 3 above are a tad too high

Your engine is running too rich a mixture (Co), which is pushing up the Hc.

Give it a strong dose of injector cleaner and a good thrash. Failing that the cat may be getting a bit tired.
