hows everyone been since the last time i was here (about 18months or so)

well im back in the mercedes fold i picked up a c200 auto yesterday, absolutely loving just have a little problem

the guy i bought it off replaced the maf sensor coils and a speed sensor(?) on the back axle

anyway when i was driving it today it felt awful really misfiring badly, idle very lumpy etc

on my way back from home i picked up a fuel filter which i got replaced the mechanic said the fuel in the old filter was very dirty. i also picked up some spark plugs

when i took the old plugs out they were only finger tight, 3 of those were soaked in oil and petrol

anyway cleaned everything out put the new plugs in while i was there cleaned the throttle body also.

air filter looked clean so didnt change it put everything back and...........

still the same

went to put some petrol in, put in a bottle of redex too

drove about for a bit and the hesitation cleared up quite abit but heres my other problem

when the car is in drive, park, neutral it wont rev over 4000 rpm as if its hitting the limiter

when i put it in 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th it revs all the way to the redline

i almost forgot it wont kick down either in auto mode

to me it seems like a definate electrical fault relating to the gearbox, its being hooked up to a computer tomorrow so should know more

ive heard about ovp's etc thought about it but will wait till tomorrow

has anyone suffered this problem before or can anyone point me in the right direction

any help will be much appreciated

regards

abz

television - thanks for that mate thats one less thing to worry about

just been for a drive around the block, it started very hesitant but this time even when i selected a gear, i drove it upto the redline on a long clear road

it cleared up abit but i could still hear the popping of unburnt fuel and still wont kick down properly, i might get the gearbox oil changed

but still scratching my head over this misfire

it starts first time all the time

sometimes, not always when i come to a stop the revs drop really low and the whole car shakes, roll on tomorrow so i can find the problem

im hoping and praying its not the ecu

Check the MAF if its original then its possibly needs replacing, if its not a Bosch unit then replace it...

Just a thought. I know you said you replaced plugs - did you have the leads checked for resistance? More often the problem than plugs. Sometimes simple problems get overlooked.

Coils can break down when warm, as can the leads as oigle said.

The lead and spark testers are only £7

an italian tune up would also be a good idea seeing as the car has sat still for one year

cheers
