Hello Mercedes forum,

This is my first post - I've just entered into Mercedes ownership in a big way with an E300 and a Viano Traveliner 111 CDi. So far I'm loving them both - especially the E-class which makes me smile as I woosh around the Highlands in fine style. I took it across to Skye the other day - a 6 hour round trip which flew by. Also pleasantly surprised to get 39mpg on the trip, despite all the twists, turns, single track passing places and steep bits...

And so to my first question...

I want to fit a towbar to the Traveliner. I know that a dedicated plug-in wiring kit is available for this vehicle (it's a 2005 model by the way), but it's pretty expensive, so before I buy one I'd like to check that the vehicle has a socket to plug it in to. I've looked behind the trim panels around the rear light clusters, and had a peek into the massive fuse box under the bonnet, but there's no obvious socket.

  • Can anyone suggest where I might find the socket?
  • Does anyone know if a tow bar plug-in socket is standard kit on a Traveliner or is it possible I don't have one?
  • If i do fit a plug-in kit, can anyone tell me if I'll need a software download from Mercedes to get the electrics to work properly (I've got rear parking sensors so i'm hoping a plug-in kit will automatically disable these when a trailer is hitched up????)

Thanks for reading - Hope someone can help...

Cheers

I know this was an old thread, but I want to fit a Towbar to my 2007 Viano. As for Wiring it up,is there any Do's and Dont's.Will I need to fit any Relays etc or can I wire it up directly to one of the Tail lights just the same as any other Car.
My Viano is fitted with the Parktronic sensors if that affects things in any way.

Check the following site out for the particular kit you will require and have a read of all the technical info on there.

http://www.rightconnections.co.uk/

I purchased a 13 pin kit for my 2003 E270 with parktronic. It comes with everything you will need and you can download the installation instructions to have a read before you buy - in my case from PF Jones.

It is 'plug and Play so very simple to install and I did not need the car to be re-programmed by MB etc
