I have a 350SL, circa 2006, 62k on the clock and suffering the dreaded SRS light, no wipers, constant clicking from headrest area, display flashing, orange rollover light showing, loss of convenience functions, etc, etc.
Have replaced both batteries, and now being advised to change out the electronic ignition system as a final cure. Have checked elsewhere on this website and problems seems to be common. Is this likely to be a sure fired solution?

Hello and welcome. To start with, have you:

1. Had the car on Star to diagnose faults? Or
2. Chased the faults around the car by replacing parts?

Hello, I have had the car into an independent MB specialist in Glasgow who has carried out a range of checks, forgive me but I am no mechanic. They have used a diagnostic system of some kind and detected a low voltage reading, hence the battery replacement. This seemed to have done the trick but after a few days the problem was back. I had to abandon a journey yesterday because the clicking noise was coming from both seats and wipers were disabled etc. I am taking it back in next week and propose printing off some of the threads I have seen on this website.

If they are an MB indie they probably are using STAR hence the reason I deleted my post as I re-read your 2nd post

Hi Maybesaye and welcome to the forum. I can’t help with your problem I’m afraid but I hope you get it sorted without too much more hassle.

I have one of the iCarsoft MB11 diagnostic tools , if you think it would help narrow down the cause of the faults then you are more than welcome to pop over and give it a try as i have yet to try it out as a faultfinding tool.

Hello, Steve, Andy, Kenny and John. I have been away from civilisation for a few days and have only just picked up your posts. In no particular order, I don't have an air scarf, a voltage drain was suspected earlier in the saga and both (original) batteries were replaced. That seemed to cure things for a short time. I am very grateful for the offer from Kenny but I do not have the skills to even begin using a diagnostic tool. My current plan is to take the car to another MB specialist in Carntyne (TJ O'Niell) who, I have discovered, has already experienced this issue with another SL350.

Hi and welcome.
Not sure what to suggest without a bit more research into it but will be curious to hear how you get on with the diagnosis.

I had a voltage drain on my 230 which was solved by a replacement alt reg pack, but let’s see what your diagnostic throws up (actually that didn’t show on my diagnostic at the time)
