Hello everyone. I have always found this site to be very informative and useful, and am looking forward to making some contributions myself.

I have a 2005 slk 350 manual - yes I know I'm a dinosaur with that, but it is the best manual I've ever driven and don't think I would ever feel ready for an auto just yet. But it's been a costly beast, especially with the balanceshaft issue, yet always been worth it and I don't see myself wanting to part with it just yet - which brings me to my first question: does anyone know where I can source a decent rust-free subframe that is less than the £850 MB are charging? Thanks for any help or advice.

Whenever I am looking for specific but unusual parts I enter the details into one of the websites which ping the details to a network of breakers. I once bought a replacement engine for a VW Golf through that route.

Thanks to all who offered advice and information - spent all yesterday afternoon trying out the suggestions but to no avail. It seems this part is suddenly in much demand and is now impossible to source as a second-hand item in a decent uncorroded condition. But being as time is of the essence with the Mot on the 25th, I had to settle for the MB option. Yet managed to negotiate them down to £698.12 inc. vat and all mounts from the original £850 they were asking. Picking it up on Friday then off to drop that off along with the slk at the garage immediately afterwards.

Welcome Carl. Sorry about the hit to your wallet but at the end when the job's been done you'll be well sorted with an SLK with an "as new" subframe installation.
