Hi Daverake…..Sorry to hear of your car problems. Now, I’m not able to offer any mechanical advice but if you are have problems with the language, I can offer you an “Ad Hoc” translation assistance from Spanish into English.( and less accurately English into Spanish . I have been speaking Colloquial Spanish for about 50+ years ( after marriage to a Spanish lady and when Retirement loomed, I took an “A” level at a local polytechnic and wonder of wonders, actually passed with an “A*” grading. So if you are having problem in the ‘comms.’ department, drop me a reply in here and we’ll see how I can help
Hello, abuelo!

Thanks very much for your offering, I truly appreciate it and I'm really overwhelmed that so many people is here to help. When I registered in this forum I thought it would be quite a success if I had one reply, just.

I will let you know. I'm writing Correos to see how much the price of a motor would increase with customs and all that; I know it's 25-30% at least... I'm been asked from 4000 euros onwards here in Spain - being married to a Spanish woman, I bet you are aware how surreal-crazy-unrealistic-whatever we are when it comes to used items -, so if I find it''s cheaper to buy an engine in the UK, I will.

I don't think the crankshaft has "seized" as such, I think that is likely an error in translation. It may have spun a bearing.

What I can see in the third photo is scoring in the bearing shells, which is likely due to low oil pressure.

Put simply, when that happens, the engine is toast, which is what the professionals appear to be saying.

Hi, Mark.

That may well be; I mean, be it a seized crankshaft or the bearing shells being scored, the engine is dead. What you suggest about low oil pressure links with that I was told by one of the Mercedes guys about an oil pump that should have been replaced. If it wasn't in due time, the result is what happened to my engine

For me the key thing here is did the engine actually seize up whilst running, if it did then I agree it's probably beyond economical repair, however if it was running but sounding like an out of tune Mariachi band it may be possible to regrind the crank.

Unfortunately, yes, I was driving at 60 km/h or so. I had left the highway something like 15 minutes before and had just driven up a small 2-3 kms steep climb in which I geared down to 4th. Then I kept on at near 90 and 6th, slowed down to 60-65 km/h because I was passing by another village, and when I left that village behing I sped up and engine dropped dead.

I'm afraid there was no Mariachi band, lol. Another problem is that, since I have always driven a petrol, I really am not able to make out when the engine is out of tune. Well, that and I'm a little bit deaf, too.
