Anyone following my posts will know that I was considering installing aircon into my W124. That was some time ago.

I didn't do that, I bought a Volvo V70 with fitted and working aircon, and put the Mercedes up for sale, albeit not very aggressively.

The V70 was a 1998 AWD manual, fabulous car, but nowhere near as well built as my 124, and I really cant get on with the stick shift any more.

So I think its sold, and I will convince my insurance broker that I really have lost my marbles, and re-insure the Mercedes.

Now I need to make sure that the heater is in tip top condition - dont want to buy another car because the comfort factors aren't right.

Back to pester you all soon.

Tony

Great news, pleased that you have come to your senses.

The V70 AWD is a pig when it uses the Haldex box , any more than 3mm difference in the tyre tread can blow the box

no box needed. just personal preference! if the box ever goes though, i could be the first person (as far as im aware) to convert a 210 300 turbodiesel to a manual box!

Ouch! That's me told then:)

but i do love a manual box on a country road!

I drive on country roads most of the time, roads blighted by tractors, cauli carts, day trippers, speed limits, speed cameras, crazy bikers riding far too fast, and other assorted hazards.

Changing gear at the same time as this is going on is altogether too much.

Well the sale fell through - bit of a dreamer ...

But a nice man and his wife from Scotland came down on the train and drove the Volvo back on Tuesday, and gave me some crisp folding stuff.

So yesterday I re-insured the 124 - strange look from the broker, and taxed it, and today I drove it.

Ah.....

That's better.
