Hello !!! New prospective owner looking for some advice.

Been tempted by a few CL500 and also the CL280.

Prefer the Coupe and preferably the convertible., post 2003

There are quite a few around at the sub £4K and then a gap where my budget sits which is £5-8K.

Now found a 2008 CL500 which ticks all the boxes, but I am aware of the issues around timing gear wear which I obviously want avoid and this particular car sits right on the cusp age wise.

I have images of the engine details but struggling to identify engine numbers/serial numbers having read a very useful thread on here from 2016.





This is also a slight concern ....



So yes...... I'm hoping for some advice..... please. If there is any other information that might help, please ask.

Never considered a Merc until recently. I've normally gone Italian or French, but always preferred a 3.0L+ engine. I'm a cruiser not a drag racer.

CLK is/was a 2 door coupe based on the C Class saloon platform.

CL is/was a 2 door coupe based on the S Class platform.

Very different cars - CL only in V8 or V12 petrol

CLK can be petrol or diesel and from IL4 to V8

The K means compact

So this is a CLK, petrol V8 with an AMG sports pack and what appears to be a modified SS exhaust.

You mean the AMG on the boot ?

Heard that's a bit of a no no, as it's not a pure AMG, but if that's as bad as it gets then I can live with it.

Looks very tidy and certainly well cared for always nice to see a full MB history rare for a car of that age...as said the AMG badge needs to go, lol...if everything checks out you won’t do better

So I've done it. Drove it back Reading > Manchester.

Very enjoyable and no resemblance to anything I have owned or driven in my life.

Cruising around the North of England this summer with the roof down is going to be something else.
