220d sport e class estate 2020
My first MB and it's ok...
I have a 2020 E 220d sport estate.
Other than the rear suspension compressor failing at 3500 miles. This car was 3 months old, and the previous owner upgraded the wheels from standard 17" to AMG 19" with wider tyres on the rear. This is a hard ride and noisy. This car is going to be used for towing a caravan. So higher side walls make a comfy ride and better on grass and gravel and I have already burst a rear tyre costing £250 on what would have been no problem for standard tyres. I will get another set of wheels But 17" or 18" is the question. Any advice is welcome.

Hello and welcome

17” all day long

You can’t see them from the drivers seat but you can feel them.. and your wallet can feel them every time you need new ones…

Thanks for your reply. 17" will give me that extra confidence driving across a field with hidden tent pegs lurking !! I could get a set from eBay but they have winter tyres fitted. It may sound strange but what's the difference in driving winter tyres from the standard everyday tyres or will I have to get a set of everyday tyres as well .... Never had this issue with my last 2 SUVs. I got this car because my dog's are too old and heavy to lift up into a high boot and this estate ticked every box.

No issues with winter tyres (the rear of my smart has winters on all year round…). They tend to work really well in poor and wet conditions - not so great on the race track…;)

Mytyres (German based website) do wheel and tyre packages which are pretty good - they also provide the fitting kit for the aftermarket wheels. I’ve a set of their alloys with winter wheels on my SLK at the moment

Go back to stock, no issues then with insurance and 17 are cheaper and will provide a better ride with or without a caravan.

Got 18" summers on the E350, not bad, plus 17" winters. I much prefer the 17"

My SLK is on 16” as standard, you can fit 19”‘s  most are on 18”’s and the ride isn’t as nice.
