Hi all,
i own a1974 350sl to which a 1987 124series 2962cc engine has been fitted
the car starts and runs great but after about a mile the engine coughs and splutters and wont accelerate, this lasts for about 10 to 15 seconds then everything is fine and it runs as it should do, does anyone have any ideas please.
Thanks f321ffc

There are already quite a few threads about this sort of problem. Try searching the forum for w124 loss of power and you should get a reasonable amount of suggestions.

Seems to be a spate of this at the moment, probably due to the wet weather. Most probably the onset of condensation problems in the distributor cap. Replace the cap and rotor arm or the problem will manifest itself by the car stalling five minutes or so after start-up.

The early 124 engine seemed prone to this.
