What a nightmare! I got my van in October 05 with 9200 miles on the clock. Now I am having real problems with it. This is a run down of the problems that have been fixed under warranty, which I am annoyed about. However they have been done.I was not offered any compansation for time off work that I have had to take, on more than one occasion. The main thing that I am devastated about are all the rust patches that are starting to appear, I took it in for M.B to look at and their answer was that it was because it is white, and that it will show more rust up than a red one. I could not believe it. Now I need some advice on what to do. As far as I am concerned this van has failed miserably in keeping the the quality name of MERCEDES BENZ. In 5 years time I will need to buy tins and tins of filler because it will be rottern. Ive had a new SAM unit in (something to do with electrics) then a new drive shaft in the gearbox. (a full strip down) A new track rod end. (now I have two worn down tyres) A recall on the front suspension. (it was knocking over bumps) Two new rear shockers. ( it took them 6 weeks to order) New bearings on the prop shaft (very noisy) A new front headlamp. (full of water) A new rear door catch (door would not shut) It does 24 miles to the gallon and uses 2.5 litres of oil in 5000 miles. Also there is rust coming through on most of the hidden joints and folds. We also have a Escort van which is a lot better than than £14,500.00 pile of crap that I drive. PLEASE WHAT CAN I DO, PLEASE HELP.

Your Mercedes
2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
I cant answer all your problems, Their comment about white showing more marks than red is not true. Red is the weakest colour, most red vehecle's are painted with a white or biege undercoat to stop any bleeding through or grinning through in sun light. White is a much harder finish than red.
My Sat man has two vito's, both red, one's 5 and his new one is 2 with no rust and more than 100k on the clock.
I get to the point with these problems and I forwarn them that I will block their entrance if not put right. mingle with the customers and tell them about your problems. It works for me.

You have a case for rejecting the vehicle under the new consumer protection laws.
My V220Cdi was totally unreliable from day 1 and Mercedes customer services were unhelpful and arrogent.
reject it and buy a VW transporter.

Buy a 04 2.5TDI Transporter.

I got rid of my Y reg 110CDI about a year ago, only had about a year and bought it when it was two years old, sold it as soon as the warranty expired. it was blue and had started to rust on wheel arches, sills, doors, front of wings etc etc etc.

although mechanically it was a good one.

T4 VW Transporter on the other hand gets full marks. I also bought a X reg T4 at the same time, I still have it, though am sadly selling it tomorow as I have my new animal. It has been solid and 100%.
