Hello
I've recently bought a 2001 reg SLK 200 Kompressor. The BAS ESP warning light comes on intermittently and today the engine suddenly cut out at a junction. Luckily, the car restarted again at the first try. Mileage is just over 32K.
I've searched through the forums and have seen a few posts with similar problems but call me a technobimbo  the solutions seem a bit too technical for me...

a) is this a serious problem? (the engine cutting out, not my technical lack of knowledge)
b) can anyone recommend a good independent garage/mechanic near weybridge where I can get the fault fixed without being ripped off

Many thanks in advance for your help
Tanya

Thanks Alf230.
Is that a major job or easy enough to sort out?

if its the CPS, would it have restarted straight away with no cool down period?

What would? Normally a CKS fault won't allow instant restart.

Of coarse it will not
Read it how you want to, but I was saying that it would not have started straight away if it was that

so, I take it that it is probably not the CPS/CKS? Is that the same thing as the crank sensor? (I did warn you that I'm a technobimbo...)

Thanks for taking time to reply - much appreciated by a newbie

Yes that would be the same thing, you would have had to wait for quite a time if it was that.

How many times did it stop

Just the once. The BAS warning light came on a couple of miles later.

There is not that much to the BAS but STAR will tell you what that fault is.

The stopping is too hard at this stage
