I put off replacing my front brake pads on my '98 s500. at first the brake sensor came on, but after a few weeks the esp / oil / check engine lights came on. Now the only light that is on is check engine light and my car idle is rough. Could the brakes cause this to happen? or is it another problem?

Brakes

The brake pad wear warning light is also connected to the ESP system so its possible one affected the other. The oil warning light is connected to the ECU as is the check engine light, however I dont believe the brake problem can possible affect your engine. The check engine warning light comes on as part of the OBDII principle. Which means your engine has an air/fuel related problem which culminates in a rich mixture. ie too much fuel and not enough air, therefore I would first suspect the MAF also called an Air Flow Sensor. Hope this helps. Check this forum on How to clean your MAF its very good.

I cant find the location of the MAF on 1998 S500

Hello Eric,
I attempted to clean the MAF.... I followed the link on how to clean it, but it seems that the location of the MAF it's not the same as in my 1998 S500. Is there another location or link where I can find out where it is?
Thanks

doesn't look anything like mine..

thanks guys for the help....
but the schematic of the link you sent me doesnt look anything like mine.
there's no part #116 on any of the air flow plastic hoses. Do they make them different in California because of all the emission laws?
