Hi guys n gals.I posted ages ago on here that I was getting a "C" class.

Got it, it's the C200, 1997 vintage and is immaculate - ish!!!

Anyway, it wasn't starting and I was pointed in the direction of the fuel pump by my local MB techs.

"But it's pumping round the system!" I protested.

Long story short, I changed the pump and still no go. The relay is knackered, but the replacement should be here today (am off to get it after this).

However, I put a jumper wire to the battery + and onto the relay terminal and got the pump working. The engine fired and died almost immediately.

If I pour petrol in the plenum chamber it starts and runs, but wont start on it's own.

There is voltage at the coils and it is sparking (obviously as it runs when I pour petrol in the plenum chamber, remember?) and everything else seems in order.

I then put a clamp on the return hose to up the pressure in the fuel rail, again no go.

My thoughts on this are the injectors seem to pulse once (starts and dies) and thats yer lot matey.

Any idea if I am on the right track and if so, what would cause this?

It seems this car has been off the road for almost 3 years and all manner of muppets have played with it. I know I put it together correctly.

One last thing, when I renewed the fuel filter (£25 from MB ) the pressure was there when I undid the hose (need a shower to get the petrol out of my hair, ears, eyes, teeth, etc....), but it doesn't seem to be there at the fuel rail.

Please help me retain my hair by suggesting what it could be as I am in danger of pulling it all out

EDIT: Update, still not starting with new relay.

Had a word with the tech at MB and told him all my woe's.

He said to check I hadn't burnt out a small terminal on the turret (passenger side) which I did and haven't.

I asked is it possible the TDC sensor is knackered as the injectors only pulse once every now and then. He said it may be?!

Any takers?

Please??

Pretty please........

OVP? Whats one of them??

I replaced the relay, the replacement pump works as well as the original, that is to say, perfectly (like I thought).

When I switch on the ignition the pump doesn't prime. That leads me to suspect that something else isn't right.

I wonder if the TDC sensor has something to do with it?

Now and then, when cranking (after a few attempts) the engine will fire once then die. I think the injectors pulse once which is why I suspect the TDC sensor.

I am on the verge of towing it to the local dealer, but hate to admit defeat

Sorry about the sarcastic post before, but I thought I was getting the cold shoulder

Ahh, OVP. I know where it is and what it is, but how do I check it is working (or not)?

I used a jumper wire to bypass the pump relay, but nothing so that seems to kick that idea out the window.

Not the OVP relay this time for your fault, the crankshaft sensor could give the symptoms that you describe

They are made by Bosch and buing one from them will be ½ the MB price at £46
