My mate has a C280 sport which has been standing for quite a while. He can't get in the car with the remote fob, and has broken a key in the boot lock. He thinks the problem is a flat battery, and therefore no power to the central locking.
Is there a way to release the bonnet without having access to the cabin so he can charge the battery?

Thanks in anticipation.

Do not try and charge the battery while coupled up to car, Take off the earth minus lead, trying to charge a totally flat battery could mean more than 20 volts on you ECU's, expensive.

Thanks Malcolm, understood. Think we're going to try it this afternoon, if we can get the bonnet opened.

How did it go? Any success? I'd have tried energising the car from underneath rather than fiddle about trying to open the bonnet from outside. That way you can use the remote to unlock the car.

However, there is more than one way to skin a cat I suppose. Just try to pick the easiest.

Hi Ron, no joy yet. Couldn't find anywhere suitable under the car without opening the bonnet. Ordered a new key.

The starter motor is bolted to the transmission bellhousing, at the rear of the engine on the left-hand side. The main cable terminal will be +ve. Any suitable earth point can be used for the -ve.
