Hi All,

Your help with my problem will be greatly appreciated as my car is stranded outside work. On Sunday morning I got up for work, opened and started my 2011 B160 W 245 as normal. I drove to work, parked up and tried to lock the car but it wouldn't operate no matter how close I went to it. That evening I came out and tried to start it, the key turned in the ignition but absolutely nothing happened, the dash lights didn't come on nor did the radio, the car wouldn't turn over and a check of the lock operation again wouldn't work. When I turn on the radio manually it bursts into life and the battery was only replaced back in November.

Last night I tried a new battery in the fob but this had no effect, the spare key was lost many years ago and, stupidly never replaced. Could anybody shed any light on this for me please? I asked one of the electricians in work and he said it could potentially be something called a "Sam module" (apologies if I've described that wrong.) I am now getting desperate as the car is some 20 miles from home and I'm relying on a lift to get to work which isn't practical. Any help would be extremely welcome.

Just to add, after speaking to the electrician he told me to check fuse 29 which was fine.

Hi, no I'm getting nothing at all, when the key is placed in the ignition the wheel lock doesn't come off and when I turn it through positions 1, 2 and start absolutely nothing happens not even dash lights, If I press the radio power button, whether the key is in the ignition or not, it bursts into life but it doesn't come on automatically.

Radio I presume or he would be going home in it.

Do you have any means to measure battery voltage?

Do your headlamps come on?

Radios don't take much to fire up.

Can your electrician do a few basic checks for you ?

So the radio doesn't come on or the car starts at the turn of the key the radio only "bursts into life" when I press the power button on the radio. The battery was a brand new Varta back in November, the car is used daily and has shown no sign of depleting or parasitic drain. Surely if it was the battery the car would've died before I switched it off?

Hmmm looks like I've found the problem, went to test the battery and found that the battery box was full of water which looks like it may have got into the fuse box. Looks like I may have to speak to my insurance!

How heavy was the rain in that area..?
Some drain holes under/near the battery clogged by leaves. You may be lucky with the fusebox being dry.
