    Hi all,

Mercedes quoted £800 for new discs and pads today :alien: I can get all parts of brembo quality for £300.

Just wondering if there are any good fellows on this forum around Lincolnshire area who might help fit them.

Local Dexel garage have offered to fit them for just labour but no warranty.

But does your car actually need them? MB told me nearly a year ago that I need new discs & pads at the front, my local indie just fitted new pads a week or 2 ago when be serviced it ..... he considered the discs to be ok.

MB usually look at whether the discs/pads will carry the car to the next service but this may be quite wasteful so always good to check yourself

Car is juddering like mad under braking and I can’t stand it anymore. It gets better regarding the ridiculous prices ...for what they quoted

    New starter motor battery: £350
    Wheel alignment: £180
    New alloy: £800

Also the new Discs and pads all around is with a 20% discount!!

    Hahaha. I said no thanks.

It’s quite possible the front discs are warped do you have any history re what’s been fitted or are they the originals

Originals. Car was on rolling road (MOT bay) and both front and rear showing fluctuations. Again I think this is down to that stupid adaptive cruise with its heavy braking - or just the genuine parts couldn’t take it.

My son bought his W213 18 months ago @17k miles and the brakes were noisy when we went out in the car so I suggested the MB dealer changed pads and discs all round as part of the deal which they duly did, we would have walked if they hadn’t

Those prices are out of this world (at least the latter two)
Wheel alignment is £25 to £50, (just had mine done albeit not Hunter, but still....)

    Why the new alloy?
If that is warped, or cracked that may cause vibration, certainly if the discs and pads are good.

Another possible - has a wheel has thrown a weight or two (or they were poorly balanced - it can happen....)
Yet another is flat spotted tyres - had this on the approved Nissan QQ when we bought it 5 years ago - they agreed and put 4 new tyres on as a goodwill gesture (it would have been too much to work out which ones were flat tbh!)

Any old garage should be able to sort that all out for you, not a main Stealer....

Hit a pothole however, had the judder before. Pothole has cracked the NSR alloy. All tyres are run flats as well so hard to see if any internal damage ...

    All wheels have been rebalanced.

Car drives smooth - only problem when I brake.

As a friend once said, putting on the brakes is like setting fire to £5 notes under the wheel arches ...

Discs and pads are top earners for dealerships.

MB are rip off merchants, simple as that.
You should even be able to beat that 300 for buying disc and pads.
Also are you sure you need rear disc
shudder most likely to be from front
and fitting disc and pads on the front even for diy is about 3-4 hrs .

So this is how I'm going to approach it ...

Going to buy a refurbed alloy from ebay and get that fitted (at least then, my car isn't a safety hazard). Will have all the wheels re balanced AGAIN.

If judder still exists then I will replace front discs and pads for brembo.

If judder still exists then I will replace rear discs and pads for brembo.

When I'm very slow traffic i.e. < 5mph - I can feel the discs grab and then let go i.e. uneven disc. This happens in-line with a full tyre rotation. This is my theory behind the RunFlat tyres not being shot. The car drives perfect which also adds to this point.

Just bought a very good refurbed alloy for 215. Coming on Thursday, I will update this forum as I proceed with diagnosis!

Thanks again for all your replies - it’s very useful to bounce ideas and thoughts at great minds!

Very easy job to do at home.

Son has a Clio RS220 that needed new pads. Renault wanted £212. Visit to Europarts with an online code and did the job for under £30. Took all of 30 minutes.. Like others said,, real money maker for dealers.

Check out youtube for pointers. Were they doing a brake fluid change in that price ?

After about 20 mins of searching and then contacting the company/seller - made an offer and they accepted haha!

Need the car back on the road for work. Hairline crack should be OK however, it’ll be my luck that I’ll have a huge bang right where the crack is...

After the alloy is replaced then the car is safe and the other brake judder issues etc. are not major.

Wish my RunFlat tyres didn’t have so much tread on them which gives me a valid excuse to swap them!!:shock:
