You’re right - I should be able to do it myself however, I haven’t got the space or confidence to do it on such an expensive car.

I’m highly skilled in another area so I’ll just use the money I make on that to pay a local garage to do a good job It’s one of my goals to own a garage big enough with a ramp!!

Your damaged alloy can then be sold or repaired /sold to recoup some costs (or of course, keep it for next time.....)

Thanks all. Would be interested to know what manufacturer forum members recommend regarding brake pads and discs?

I've used Brembo before and they were pretty good quality. ECP also has a 50% sale right now making each disc only £60.

Phoned Mercedes Parts at the local dealer. Front Discs are 71.54 + VAT, Front Pads are 67.33 + VAT. Not too bad tbf. I mentioned the ECP deal and the guy on the phone said he could possibly do them at trade price (-10%)

Would they use just one supplier?

Previous owner fitted Brembo disks and pads to my 212, they squeaked at low speed and have also developed a vibration under braking,

They are standard on my VXR insignia , pile of crap , overheat too easy and rattle like the cars going to fall apart

    Not a fan personally,

Simon, as a side note the vibration does match that of Jimbo’s you’d be welcome to have a test if my car and see what you think, may help both of us out as to a root cause to these juddering disks.

    sorry for the hijack Jan

MB at the price you quoted above, my feeling is that even OEM don’t like a hard life I think nowadays you need to pay top dollar if you use the brakes hard, my son’s W213 should never have needed discs at <20k miles but they were noisy which led me to believe the car had been driven quite hard, he on the other hand is light on brakes and no probs 30k miles on with MB discs and pads

MB will use multiple suppliers in their supply chain for discs and pads. Maybe he got a good one

Not heard good things about Pagid on other forums

The front discs on my 435i are two piece and the replacement costs reflect that not that I’m likely to stopping from >100 mph, some do though especially in Germany

You know if a disc is badly warped and you jack car up and wheel off and turn the disc you will see the twist as it turns ,the disc where it’s warped will come in close to the brake pad and out again as you turn it. If you do this you will know which is warped . No point in spending money replacing good disc.

Pagid are there main supplier, part of the "Friction Products" portfolio. I have used them on 4 Mercs, 2 audi's and 3 VW's with no problems at all, they just need to be fitted properly
