My 2010 C350 was shaking quit a lot and I decided to check under the bonnet to investigate further... that is when I found a cover had melted close to my oil cap and after I dug out the debris and cleaned it up I could then see a hole. When I turned the ignition on it started spitting diesel and smoke out of the hole! Can anyone advise what part this is that has the hole in and whether it's worth a DIY job or just to take it to Mercedes to get repaired. Also how this could of happened would be good info as well! A bit of the old "Black Death" there!

Don't panic, it needs a new injector seal and the seat and injector cleaning up to suit. Not too big a job, and becoming common on the om642 now. A decent indy will sort that out for you in no time.

So it was an injector seal problem which was eventually after 4 days re cut and cleaned. Only charged £228.00 which was less than expected however the garage appear to of taken the mass Air flow off to gain access to the injectors. The only issue is they didn't bother putting it back together again! Now the air intake is less then required and my cars turbo is not kicking in =(. Will have to attempt to re connect it as they are closed over the bank holiday period!

Empty garage, awaiting new toy :)
They should never have removed that separately from the MAF
They should have removed the complete MAFs and air filters assembly as one piece
as now you have a possibly a broken unit that will never reassemble correctly.

The flexible part has oval shaped plastic collars/clips that connects the two parts together and these are very brittle.

Using a heat gun and carefully prising with a large flat screw driver it can be done,
but if they have already snapped the plastic oval clips/clamps then you need a new MAF assembly.

I have repaired lots of these after finding electrical tape wrapped around the broken flexi's trying to hold together and seal up due to incorrect air filter changes.

MB used to sell separate MAF's but now sell only the complete assembly costing over £300.00

Hopefully they didn't try to reassemble it and break the clips.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but that seems like the newer version of the MAF that is close to £600 and not the £300 the old one used to cost.

Might be right
been a while since I done one of those from new and complete
but was over £300.00 +vat that I do remember.

I have a supplier that sells the MAFs separately like MB used to.
So perhaps I'm remembering the individual MAF price.

There are just two different versions. The £300 part was on my old CLS320 and the superceeded part was on my E350 that was the 265 version, the one that I sent a link to.

Your probably right but I'm referring to the OM642 350 engine
you used to be able to buy the MAFs separately
then MB decided to sell just the complete unit because,
" Total MAF failure was imminent when either left or right has failed"
The logic being replace both because when one goes the other fails shortly.
Plus add the difficulty in changing a single MAF due to the fragile clips/clamps.

Anyway lets hope the OP has a good simple result.

I'm sorry to say I'm not impressed with the cable ties holding the spill pipe tubing onto the fitting either.

Thanks for the comments. I've been trying all day to slide the rubber back in but I just don't have the space to push it in enough under. Thinking about taking it apart myself to get more room to work with. I just can't believe they have done this and I bet when I call them on Tuesday I know what answer I will get when I ask them to fix this problem!

Take it back to the garage, they may have fixed your leaky injector but its still a bodged repair.

You have to remove the whole thing to get access and be careful not to damage anything
especially putting a hole in the rubber with a screwdriver.
The plastic ring your trying to push the rubber into clamps the rubber lip to the MAF/Airbox, its best to remove the plastic clamp carefully and refit it as it will only damage the rubber pipe trying to get it all around the edges pushing it in, good luck if you manage it, but careful use of a heat gun to slightly soften the plastic will allow it to CLICK back in place its very tight.

Or of course take it back to whoever done the repair and explain they should have removed the Airbox to MAF to flex pipes to turbo assembly complete, what they did was pull just the left airbox/MAF off the flex pipe to gain access.

Thanks again for all the comments again, I even watched the video that the garage sent me before they did the repair and it clearly shows the MAF intact! I will definitely be asking the garage to do this. Just annoying it had to happen over the bank holiday weekend :(. I might just duct tape it until tomorrow and hopefully I can at least drive it for a day or two with no issues.

The pictures you posted "pre repair" in this thread also shows the MAF rubber flexi correctly fitted.

I found a spare whilst clearing out under the benches.

These can easily break if handled incorrectly.

An update. They said they fixed my MAF however they seemed to of used some cheap glue/Silicone to repair the damage they created. Also to make things better today I noticed a massive amount of fuel loss and when I stopped the car was leaking large amounts of Diesel. Called out RAC and they said whoever did the repair to my injectors managed to break the inlet nozzle where the return pipe is connected and also the cable ties used have damaged the pipe causing it to split hence the diesel leaking! Genuinely in shock at how much damage this garage caused me. Took it in for a simple injector seal repair and ended up with a broke MAF and a damaged injector return pipe and nozzle which will probably cost me an arm and a leg to repair =(

It will cost them not you as they broke it and you have the pictures posted on here to prove it.

I will be calling them and seeing what they say. Slightly worried what else they could break whilst trying to repair these haha. Beyond a joke with these guys now.
