Hi all,

Car is a 2010 E350cdi blue efficiency coupe.

My car is once again in my garage due to a suspected blocked DPF even though there is only 85k on it and I do a 25mile commute each way with some fast motorway.

Anyway a while back I noticed this plug not connected to anything but I can’t for the life of me work out where it goes. See attached photos. It’s 3 pin blue similar to the intake sensor plug and originates from the ‘V’ crossing loom.

There is a track running down the side of the loom to under the turbo. It looks as though it is a cable protector but there’s nothing there.

I think the two things are related.

Any ideas?

That is for a temp sensor that goes into the inlet manifold, only ever seen one on a ML, most of time it’s just a redundant plug! It’s nothing to do with your DPF,

Ah ok, I was going over and over what it could be. Thanks for reply.

I’m going to have to get my car on diagnostics then to see what it is that is wrong.

Symptoms are limp mode or limp mode like running- little to no boost and won’t rev past 3k- , mildly rough running, occasional eggy smell from Cat converter on startup, extreme heat regularly from exhaust as if the dpf is regenerating a lot, faint supercharger style sound from turbo which has only just started and isn’t always present, no warning indicators at all. I’ve just recently noticed on cool mornings the temperature not holding steady but is above 80oC unless the car enters limp mode causing temp to drop further.

Turbo shaft has no play fore and aft and a little side to side. No scoring evidenced and is free to rotate. Light soot build up on blades.

This car has been off the road due to various faults this year. Really starting to get annoying. My previous car was an Alfa 159 that gave bother on a regular basis but this car is worse and twice as costly.

Any updates buddy ? Might be worth getting an icarsoft (MB specific code reader ) or a decent MB indy with Star diagnostics . What area are you ?

Hi, yes. I took it to my local mechanic to get the codes read. He knows I do my own work but he was happy to read the codes and offer a little advice.

The only fault was with the DPF differential pressure sensor showing too great a pressure difference. He told me these sensors are prone to failure so I’ve ordered a cheap unit from eBay to test. If that doesn’t work he’ll force a regeneration for me.

Mechanic wouldn’t accept a penny from me either.

Anyway I’ve decided to sell the car. I’ve already agreed a new purchase and I’m moving away from Merc for the time being at least. This is something that I’ve been looking at doing for 4 months but I couldn’t decide what I wanted. It was hard to find the comfort, quality and driving dynamics for the money I wanted to pay.

I’ve been unlucky with my car I’m sure but it’s been a pleasure and a headache at the same time. I need something more reliable for my daily commute and a little more practicality in the boot area. If my car was reliable to my expectations I wouldn’t be selling.
