In your situation I would compose a list of must haves and nice to haves. Usually once you have the nice to haves there is no going back.

Do take your time to read through the sales brochures and the extras one can have also considering colour combos (int and ext)

Take them both out for a drive to compare the pros and cons and the features.

Based on the above and what is right for you, then decide.

Welcome

The C Class is more comparable to the A4 than the CLA

I would drive both then discount the Audi ;)

I was only using the comparing model type as to what the OP is looking at. My personal preference is 5 and up, apart from the M3/4. Currently have a 530d GT and I’m perfectly happy with it, does what I need it to and it does it really well.
As it seems to get harder and harder to find a Merc with a decent coloured interior, the 5 GT has come on to our radar recently...

You can get an “E” with beige or brown rather than black at the moment :)

Not an E400d estate, you can't - unless perhaps it's an All-road.

The looks are a bit marmite on the 5GT don't you think?

Hmm, yes.... and, no! The longer I look at them, the less I seem to mind the appearance.

A friend had one, he couldn't believe how small the boot was for such a large car, had to fold the seats down to get a set of golf clubs in

I think that's true of most BMWs to be honest.

I currently have a Volvo XC60, and I’m totally bored of it! I got the top of the range thinking if it has more power it might be fun but after like 2 years I’ve had enough!

The reason why I’m comparing the Audi A4 black edition is because that’s probably my favourite saloon.

whereas the CLA looks really fancy and I live that! The premium plus just seems to have everything on it! Quite disappointed it doesn’t have a heated steering wheel though.

The Audi A4 doesn’t even have electric seats, blows my mind when cars don’t have this. But I love the blue I can get the Audi in, Mercedes CLA colours are very bland I think.

I think you might be thinking of a different model. The 5 GT has a 500-litre boot, with the seats up. bmw_5_series_gt_1.jpg

If you are looking for a more powerful car, are you sure the 1.8 CLA will deliver ? I would be looking at a 3 -4 year old C63 with a few miles on the clock. That should deliver the oomph you need, plus it will look pretty sporty, too.

In fact if it doesn't have a V8, I wouldn't consider it.

Pretty much so. I am a bit funny about the pre-facelift. If I see I pre-facelift from the back it looks hideous. I quite like the facelift, which is what mine is, because they have given it more shape as opposed to a straight cut going down haha

What @grayb said. With the seats up I can get 2 large suitcases, 2 small ones and some bags on top of them without removing the parcel shelf. A set of clubs will be no problem at all.

A4 is a much bigger car than the CLA , why not look at the CLS , stunning car and id argue side by side a few mm bigger than the Audi
