I've had my W208 2000 year CLK for about six years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. However, it has now failed its MOT on brake pipe corrosion. OK, guesstimate to fix all the pipes circa £700, but the problem is there is (surprise!) non structural rust problems at the rear end (under the bumper panel) but more worryingly under the front nearside wing.

The car drives lovely, but clearly needs some work done on the metal as well as the MOT stuff. We'll ignore the rust under the paint... The car has lots of options and the engine seems good, but it's crunch time. Fix or scrap - the garage needs to know, and I can't decide. I just don't like the shape of the 209 so much and an older SL is scary.

In present condition what it's worth £XY per ton scrap?
It depends how long you have had the car, 700-1000£ repairs is quite cheap by today standards.
My CLK has M272 motor, possible chain sprocket repairs 2000-2500£

As my MOT chap said “ Don’t scrap for a bit of pipe”. Glad you’ve decided to keep her. I guess repair/replace costs very much depend on where the pipe is corroded and how much is corroded. Get some pictures up, we like pictures.

I had a similar dilemma with my S210 the rear wheel wells were rotten through and I couldn’t get any local welders to fabricate a repair so did it myself as it was concealed behind the bumper and made an excellent job (in my opinion lol) without welding using galvanised steel cut bent and bolted together. What was really pleasing was saving the car from being scrapped
