Hi guys,

Im really sorry to start a thread like this but I simply can't wrap my head around it hopefully one can share.

What is the normal mpg on my car for around town, I'm not interested in motorways just want to know what you guys are getting on the same care please. Tyre pressure are all fine I have nothing in the car adding weight I don't use air con bla bla bla.

Please someone just shed some light I'm getting 30mpg and I'm really not sure if this is normal

Not my engine but I agree with JBell - 30mpg on the urban cycle is not to be sniffed at. It would roughly correspond with about 50 on a run and an overall balance of 38-45 on the combined, depending on your proportion of urban. I'd be happy with that if I had your car...

So this is perfectly normal?

Given these performance specs, I'd say that's a great result.

Ignore that 53mpg combined. You WON'T get that. As I say, 38mpg combined if you do a LOT of urban; 45mpg combined if you get some good runs every now and then. That's about as good as it gets for a sub-7 second car...

You should .... use it or lose it ;)
Seconded - air con should be on all the time to keep the system lubricated. Pointless, really, to deny yourself one of the car's best features to gain a couple of mpg...

Plus air con use is not going to haemorrage your fuel use.

you will be driving with radio off next and not using the headlights.

Oh no just switch the engine off going down hill
:)))

It's not that I just don't need it, the pan roof down and windows down is fine for me

Or maybe just buy a 6.2 litre amg and the fuel will be better

It’s not about cold air necessarily, it reduces the moisture so the screens demist faster

You'll actually use more fuel that way by causing additional drag...

You will find you get far better mpg when car is fully up to running temperature, lots of short runs kills mpg. Can take a long time especially when a lot cooler for car to get up to temperature. Also check your car reaches normal operating temperature as thermostats can be faulty. But think what you are achieving for Urban driving is OK. Keep A/C on, it keeps the seals lubricated and working, windows and/or roof open causes drag and will affect mpg.

In the last couple weeks with my 2017 c250d:

Average over 200 miles is 40mpg
Town driving is 30mpg

Best on a 20 mile motorway run was 50mpg being reasonably careful

Thanks for the feedback noted this down, tempreture does get up to about 90 after a 10 mins and yes I agree it does kill it short journeys but it cannot be helped sometimes.
