What is that little black 'pot' in the front of pic 1?
Looks very much like the fuel goes through it. Is it some sort of vacuum valve that might be shutting off.
Do you see bubbles in your filter when its running?
One last thing, with the eart wire attached - reminded me that some carbs have an electric anti-run on valve. Will be a small solenoid operated by a 12v supply. (and I do see a couple of feint brown wires) IF there is one, check it has power to it.

Having looked at your video and taking into account your subsequent post I'm wondering whether the main jet is blocked and it's only running on the choke or there's a breather pipe loose which means that it's running too lean without the choke applied or it could have an idle adjustment screw that needs adjustment.

Does it run at all if you hold the throttle open and don't allow it to idle?

The fact that it starts at all leaves me to suspect that the electrics are probably okay.

(If this was a later injected engine I'd be suspecting a CPS fault).

Okay.
I think that this might be a Pierburg 1B carburettor. This can be confirmed by removing the air filter fitment ring on the top. The make and model will be cast into the top of the main body under this ring, but above the side where the throttle is attached. (One the top in the side view picture).

They were used extensively by VW as well. There are issues with the automatic choke. I believe that it uses a solenoid powered through a thermistor (for engine temperature).

I hope that some of this information may be of help.

It is a Pierburg 1B. Its off the motor. I have dismantled it and it all looks clean & working fine. All the jets were clear no sign of any muck. No real signs of wear to the spindles etc. Choke solenoid is moving freely when powered up.

Local parts dealer tells me the ignition control box a Seimens 003-545-17-32 can cause this type of fault. Apparently as it warms up it dies. Anyone heard of this?
