Help Please-Chrome steering wheel emblem

Hi guys-I have a 1996 (pre-facelift) C280 and wondered if any of you know where I can get hold of a chrome star for the center of the steering wheel to cover over the black plastic moulded star...any ideas, or do I need to replace the whole air bag cover center? Thanks in advance.

But I would imagine you would need to replace complete Airbag in one unit

If its just the 3 pointed star you want, probably the easiest place to get it would be in a scrap yard - of course you could try the main dealer, but I wouldn't hold out much hope. Do a search on the web as well, you might just get one off ebay or something like that

Had another look at the one on my SL steering centre. It seems to be made of hard plastic. It seems to be glued on. It could probably be prized off, but I think your non Chrome one is moulded part of the centre. If you fitted non-MB or one from breakers theere may be issues if airbag inflates, IE seperating from centre and hitting driver on the face. Have you asked your dealer about supplying one.

Interfering/modifying anypart of the SRS system could cause serious injury and may invalidate your insurance, if carried out by non-qualified person

it's all part of tha air bag asembly, some have chrome trim some do not, the covers are not interchangable and the chrome ones are rather expensive (about £400 dealer prices IIRC). They do crop up on eBay from time to time but would you trust a second hand airbag?
