I have a 1997 E200 (R reg) that is automatic. Over the last 3 days, whilst driving I lost power. It felt like putting a manual car into 5th gear when doing only about 20mph. I had to pull over on both ocassions. When restarting the engine, all was back to normal. No warning lights or anything. Any ideas? Please help. I love my car and do about 130 miles return journey every day for work. Thanks.

More than likely the MAF ,,take a look and unplug it and try the car

Television, 2 quick questions. Firstly, the link that you sent does not show the picture, so can you please send again? Secondly, you say take out the MAF and try it, do you mean with the same MAF but cleaned or with a new MAF or with no MAF?
I know this sounds silly, but I am new to this and am anxious not to make matters worse.
Thanks

Pull the wiring clip out of your current MAF and try the car. I think that I agree with Television about the prognosis. It sound like the Maf Or Mass air sensor is faulty or clogged.probably best to replace with a new one.

Bosch is quoting about £150. Is this about right? I noticed some cheaper ones on ebay.

I think the consensus of opinion here is that you get the Bosch one rather than the cheap chinese copy which will cause you trouble down track. You will have to wait for Uk members to confirm price but sounds about right from what I have seen here.

The maf is 5 and 8 in the links, just unplug it

That Bosch price is £100 cheaper the MB

Most Ebay ones are fakes unless guaranteed to be Bosch
