HI

Can any one shead some light on this problem i have a small oil leak just above my alternator on left hand side of a w202 early model 94'' . the rocker is dry but i think its comming from the head from the block and rocker . if so its very strange as no loss in power just a little leak . may be their is a bearing or something i cant see .

if i could get the russian link for the w202 eng it would be great .

i hope its some thing small as i love the car .

ps thank you malcom i know this one will be answered by you

Though I do not know yet what engine you have, most of the leaks are from where the timing cover meets the head, its just a crankshaft pulley off and then the cover. I do have some job sheets, just waiting for the info on the engine type

Common fault on the M111 engine fitted to your car and mine , it's a complex joint between the head/block and timing cover which leaks. The only real solution is to remove the head and timing cover and rebuild.
Is it really worth the work and expense for a small oil leak which will probably not get any worse in my experience?.Only you can decide.

Good advice George, a small leak can look a lot worse than it is, in my case I seem to be loosing very little oil indeed.

thanks guys but my leak was a small one and only recently i seen more and more oil when i looked last nite their was a droplet of oil ready to fall and the underside of the sump was really wet more then the norm .
so i hope i can fix im good with hands and have striped engines before changed heads and so on .

if i can get a drawing from the russian site on the engine part gone and details how to go about getting at it , i would be delighted and of course any tip and tricks people have learned when changing theis part .

thanks again lads

On the 6 cylinder 104 engines of the same period there was a Merc technical bulletin about oil leaks.

Instructing a reduction in oil level to a MAX of half way between min and max on dipstick (on level ground).

It eliminated the oil leak on my car about 50k miles ago and nothing since.

Try it on yours.

You can also check if this leak comes from the crankshaft seal...
