Help please

I have the pleasure of owning a w210 320 cdi on a 51 plate . Ive noticed that now and again on short journeys theres a red light staying on in the dash with SRS on it . WHAT IS IT ?:Oops: It will go out if you turn the engine off then on again when i get home .Is this serious or is it a total expensive disaster! It doesnt happen often just once every 2 months or so .What is it ?

SRS is the warning for the Air Bag / Seat Belt Pretensioners. It could just be an intermittent contact. When it is on you could get the error codes read so you know exactly what is failing.

Thanks for that. If its only something like that ill leave it till it stays on all the time then take the bulb out

Hi - I have a 1999 E320 CDI and mine does a similar thing, the SRS light comes on approx once per month and goes off after 2 - 5 minutes. When I spoke to the garage they said that this was fairly common, and probably caused by an intermittent contact, but was unlikely to affect the performance of SRS - however, if it starts to go on for a prolonged time then it would certainly require a check of the SRS system.

isn't there a plug under the front passenger seat that is notorious for this?

Its a strange fault as i said before happens about once a month or so and only when the mrs is in the front seat. Car must not like her:-D I hope the air bag doesnt fly out one morning when im on the motorway might wake me up

Mine does the same, 2001 e320, but only when I lean into the car onto the seat of the passenger side. I believe thisis the pad sensor in the seat. Yours sounds similar to me (but check the plugs underneath anyway).
