Hello guys,
really need yr help especially those who had the same experience. i can't open the door using the remote/key fob (one-button). don't know what the problem is. alarm is blinking. just afraid to open manually using the key. this is my first time to own a mercedes car. and i just have one key. no spare. still waiting for the new one but a friend said can't use it until it's been syncronised.
does anyone know what happen if i open manually using the key (flip key)? will the alam buzz and activate the immob.?

car details:
mercedes e230 (W210)
P reg (late 1996).
Auto.

Thanks in advance for yr help.

Try holding the button down for 15 to 20 seconds if nothing happens, unlock the car using the key, open bonnet find alarm unit and turn it off, key shoud be in it. Or take to MB garage and open the door there, if the alarm keeps sounding someone will eventually come out and help!!!!!!

How did you get on with your alarm problem ??
I bought the same car E230 Elegance auto late 1996 a few weeks ago and my problem is the alarm dosn't seem to be working (See alarm problem under the general discussion forum). I can lock with the remote or key and starts ok with no alarm sounding. Do you have the large oblong black fob with flip out key??.
Do you have the motion sensors on each side of the dash and does the red light come on when car locked. Did you also get a small key to turn off the siren??. On my previous car if you locked with the remote and used the key the alarm went off and if i relocked with key it the alarm stopped. So if you still need to unlock car then I think you may be able to unlock with key and relock if alarms goes off. You can turn off siren at the back if siren with smal key or can disconnect socket. Did you get supplimentary booklet "Locking system with remote control" Which says in one part "Manual door lock control (drivers Door)" If the vehicle can no longer be locked or unlocked with the remote control then unlock the drivers door with the key. I think they must mean this will also switch off alarm. Let me know how you got on and if you got the supplimentary booklet.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for yr reply.
First, yes i have the flip out key. Just one with no spare (ordered) and no small key to disarm the alarm. Second, i see the red led at the interior mirror is blinking. so, i assume the alarm is ON. I also don't have the booklet that you mentioned as well as owner's manual (ordered last week). that's why i'm not confident to open it manually using the key. just incase the alarm buzz, i don't know what to do.

question:
regarding to my case (remote not function while the alarm LED is blinking), can i open the door manually using the key? does the alarm buzz? if yes, can i just disarm the alarm by turning on the ignition?

many thanks for yr help and feedback.

You could try to unlock the car with the key but do not open the door the red light on mirror may go off. if so alarm may be then switched off so you could try to open the door. If alarm goes off you should be able to disconnect the siren by unplugging it. it should be on the right hand side looking from the front by side of front front wing. Are you in the AA or RAC
if so you could get them to have a look. If you you e-mail me I can scan and send you copies of handbook pages on central locking and suppliment of same. On the note i sent re opening with key in the suppliment it state.
Note:- "On vechicles with anti-theft alarm systems remove cap from the lock on the drivers door and unlock the drivers door with the key"
So the way I read this is they changed it so if remote is not working you can use the key. Do have the motion sensors on each of the dash if so is the red light on?? if not I don't think alarm is set .
Hope this helps

key fob help also please!!
ive just bought my first merc' its a w210 e230 and the remote key fob does not turn/work in the ignition aswell as it doesnt work the central locking.ive changed the batteries in the fob and cannot see any part of the internals missing.my key fob only has the lock and unlock functions.but when the internals are removed it has a button where the blanked off part is.the red light only works when pressing the unlock button and the button where the blanked off bit is if pressed both together.there is a very faint light when any of the other buttons are pressed (at the end) and it only flashes through the infra red bit occasionally................anyone got any ideas????

If you open the door manually with the key. the alarm will / should go off, however, once you put the key in the ignition and turn it on, the alarm will stop and you can continue to drive the car normally.

You guys could try checking your key fobs, batteries etc if the are same as pictured in this thread, the rest of the thread is well worth a read also.

forgot to mention that the light on interior sensor/tow away switch does not light up when pressed aswell.not sure if this would be apart of the problem but thought to mention it. also the manual metal key only opens the drivers door and not the rest of the doors.

Many key types have the same internals but different outer covers to suit different models.

For instance on the c class the estate cars do not have the button to open the boot. But the internals of the key are the same.
