Hi

My car(W220) has had one of the rear sensors pushed and it is sitting in the hole, feels a bit springy. The car goes mad each time I stick into reverse so have switched them off but this makes parking impossible!

What is required to repair? Is it easy for a compentant DIYer or a stealer job? If stealer how much would they charge?

Thanks in advance.

Jig,

The bar that holds the rear parking sensors only clips into the rear bumper and can be popped out to access the sensors behind.

The individual sensors clip into little posts in the strip and as the plastic is quite soft; it will probably have just come unclipped and won't have damaged the clips at all and should refit really easily. Just been and took these for you

Baz

Looks like this...

Thanks Baz, really kind of you to take those pics. That really helps I will gently pry the strip open and take a look, fingers crossed I can just clip it back on!

I got a feeling that there maybe slightly more damage as when I look at the hole at the moment it has a bit of plastic remaining where ever the sensor has broken away from!

Will let you guys know how I get on.

Managed to pry open with a cake/kitchen plastic spreader!!Bad news was both of the top plastic parts which fit into the holder were broken :( fitted the into the bottom, and taped across couple of times not the strongest hold, will wait until it falls again and will have to change next time..

Is the sensor holder available by itself?

Cheers

Dont belive you can buy just them, can you not stick them back with a good glue/sealer?

Thanks Sam unit, but there was only one, the other one was missing, what glue would hold securely? Would it be secure enough with just one?

Impact glues are the best due to their rubbery nature, instant glues can be very brittle

I am breaking a 2002 S500 LWB and have a bar available in black. It has a few scuff marks and will probably need repainting to your colour but all plastic bits are intact. let me know

Hi Jig--assuming the sensor is now working OK ? (just a broken clip)
Use a good blob of bluetack on the inside to hold it in and a small spot of super glue just to position it and hold it in hole first.
I know they are fiddly things to mess with if you have not got a ramp- but once done it should be ok again.

The trim is held in pretty much the same way as for the rear sensor trim. just be aware that if your car is a facelift one, the trim has angled clips at the front which slide into and under the holes in the bumper and as such, should just be removed from the side of the bumper first. Pre-facelift cars just clip in and can be popped out from any position

Also make sure the connector doesn't contain any water, they can be prone for that.

if the clip is missing, just use a bit of clear silicon sealer instead of glue, hold it in place with some tape until it's cured, unlike glue, any excess silicon on the plastic trim will come off easily without leaving any marks on the paintwork, job done!

Rear bumper sensor trim w220 non-facelift - please how can I remove it

Hi,

Two of my rear sensor have popped inside as my car was hit at low speed, I want to put them back but I am struggling to remove the rear bumper sensor trim.

Please let me know how I can remove the rear bumper sensor trim from a mercedes w220 non-facelift without damaging the bumper.
I have tried to remove it but it doesn't come off and if I try harder it will damage the bumper.
Please let me know if there is a special technique or tool to use to remove it.
Mercedes dealer told me not to do so as I will damage it and want to charge 120 GBP for that?

Please let me know

Cheers
