i was in the same boat a few weeks ago!

if i remember correctly there is a black handle under the seat (bum section) on each side! its well hidden, you just lift this, sit the bottom up first, this will then release the backs, which are independant, the dog/luggage cover is attached only to the larger side! hope this helps.

your welcome, i was struggling with mine for about 2 hours!

the backs may well be a bit stiff if not used for a while as mine were but give them a good thump and they should give, the dog guard slides off out the rear door then aswell if you dont need it!

lol mines a 1989 and i dont think it had ever been down!!

i thought it must be the same, once the bottom bit is up you can see the two catches that are released to allow the backs to come forward.(they look like little clutch pedals!) easy when you know how....pain in the $*%& when you don't!!

wheels

got any advice re wheels - got a set of 15 in merc alloys but they look a bit puny (like the new 5 series with standard wheels). will any merc wheel fit or do you need to enter the strange world off offsets and the like ??

ps bulb gone on instrument binnacle - easy job or complete weekend to change ?

ive got 15 inch after market alloys on mine, i think most mercedes wheels will fit, some probably will need spacer kits (ie a class) but if you follow the link it will show you exactly what the pcd and offset of each car is so you can determine the fit yourself...

http://www.alloyguide.co.uk/

theres been a lot of discussion about wheels in the past. ie losing/comprimising ride quality, if you use the search facility at the top of the page and enter alloy wheels you'll probably find what you need! as with the instrument binnacle bulb change, most things are covered somewhere.
