Hi all,
Reversing camera packed up in the frosts over winter. Water in the connector. Needs to be replaced. Can't seem to find a part number. MB want £347+vat. Need to look second hand.

Hello and welcome,

I'd expect you could replace with an aftermarket camera - just need to check if you need an NTSC one as Mercedes tend to use NTSC (rather than PAL) - (yes even in UK and Europe)

It’s a serious amount of folding, I’d have the connection apart and check if it can be salvaged. If not a “cheap” Chinesium one would be getting fitted.

I’ve toyed with sticking one into my Comand (I’ve 3 Kenwood ones sat on the shelf in my garage from previous installations in vehicles)

Blobcat.....Just pulled it all out, the wiring in the connector is v badly corroded. The camera may well be alright. Perhaps I can get the little loom with the connector? Cant find a part number though???? For the camera or the loom. Merc refused to give it up.... which I guess is their perogative.....

can you show a photo of the problem corrosion ? maybe it can be cleaned up
Hi Anyweb,
Photo attached. Absolutely shot. Although I did try, the pins are wafer thin and just bend. No way to re-attach.:( The connector on the camera end had a slight split in it and had let water in. I think the cold in december froze that water. Appers that the little loom that has this plug is not available seperately. In other news, I at last found a part number: A6398200597. Appear to be none available secondhand apart from one in Lithuania that's more than the new off Merc. Oh well. Keep searching. Thanks

If u can count the pins u can buy the connectors / plugs (duetz) for example online.or If memory OK from bosch just make sure u know which crimper to get as well or go to a good auto shop with car and camera and pay attn to any holes in bodywork the block must pass thru

Those connector pins should just pull off after a good douse with something like electrical switch cleaner then, as above, buy new pins, crimp on the the existing wires firmly, shield with sleeving and re plug
Jobs a good 'un
