Hi there,

I've just been out in my normally very happy 1997 slk 230. All was well until I set of from a roundabout, then the engine felt it was misfiring and felt like it was going to bounce out of the engine bay. The exhaiust noise became slightly more growly too. As speed built up, it was almost back to its usual self. However in low revs and starting off, the engine started bouncing around again.

Not being very mechanically minded, I am hoping this is an exhaust problem rather than an engine problem!
If you have any idea, let me know!

sounds as if its not firing on all cylinders when idling

worth checking (or getting someone else to check) your leads and plugs to start with!

Hi esther1uk.
Not an exhaust fault. As marshie001 says, sounds like ignition. Start with the cheapest option first, renew spark plugs. Cheap to buy, easy job for any amateur DIY mechanic.
Good luck, Tom.
