:confused:Am now proud owner of lovely purple A140 (2000) but I 've been though all the manuals i got and can't find out how to open my filler cap and it needs filling up! I know I could go go back to the garage but feel really stupid (Yes - I know I am) so if any owners could help me, I would be really grateful and it would save my blushes!!!

Hello,

Do you mean the flap to get at the filler as that should work off the central locking. If its the filler cap itself this should just un screw off. If its been put on very tight you may need to give a good turn.

Check to make sure its not been replcaed by one with a key however as no amount of turning will get this off, hopefully you have a key on the set of keys for the car (I doubt it has a key opening one but worth a try)

If its the flap that will not open there is usually a way of releasing this if the central locking has not 'tripped' the little catch, this should be in the manual somewhere?

Hopefully someone else will be along to help also.

Thanks

I thought that you just pushed the filler flap on the right side to open it - as long as the car is unlocked, but then it's been a long time since I've had one as a curtesy car. If it wont unlock then certainly on other cars there's a manual release lever on the back of the locking mechanism. This is usually reached from the boot area. by pulling away the trim.
