Hi,

I was driving the car yesterday all day basically and everything was fine. I parked up and when i started the car again the srs light stays on and is telling me to take it to the workshop. What could have gone wrong any help would be much appreciated and is this a big or small problem.

Well it basically means that your airbag(s) will not deploy in an accident. Could be as simple as a loose wire.

It is unwise to ignore the SRS warning light. It puts you and passengers at unnecessary risk. The only wise choice (assuming it was not a spurious fault and the light is staying on) is to go to a workshop.

Could it have anything to do with the passenger seat as my friend was moving it back and forth and tiliting it back.

I suppose it's possible that he's affected the passenger airbag in some way (it's only supposed to deploy if there is a passenger present). But it's also probable that none of the airbags will deploy. OK if you don't have an accident I suppose. But you should get it diagnosed professionally.

Here's what the manual has to say:
Individual systems could be triggered inadvertently or could fail in the event of an accident with a high rate of vehicle deceleration. If {the light stays on]}, have the SRS checked and repaired immediately at a qualified specialist workshop which has the necessary specialist knowledge and tools to carry out the work required. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for this purpose. In particular, work relevant to safety or on safety-related systems must be carried out at a qualified specialist workshop.

There is a known problem with the passengers seat pressure pad. If your friend was playing with the seat a wire may have become trapped under the seat. You should still consult a garage - your safety is at stake.
