Hello Everyone,

New member, from Kent, UK. I have a 2005 E220 CDI, Black with Orient Beige leather. After 3 years of trouble free motoring, the dreaded SRS light has come on!! An independent garage diagnosed the fault as 9033 Fault in comms with component B48/1 (driver side frontal acceleration sensor) or there is a cable fault. Can anyone tell me where is the sensor located in a UK Spec vehicle? Could this cause the SRS light to come on? im stuck now (and so is the garage) looking forward to hearing from you.

Should the SRS in the first post read ESP

Hi Television.

It's the srs light thats on.

Thanks this has nothing to do with any ESP fault code, I am pretty sure of that.

ok thanks, does that mean replacing the acceleration sensor wont put the srs light out? The garage said the srs light was on because of the b48/1 error code but i wasn't convinced and took the car out the garage and started searching online for answers.

I really do not think that this is part of the SRS system, the SRS is all air bags and seat belts

ok thanks again television, i'll focus on the seat belts and air bag then

i read earlier today about the common fault with the wiring or harness under the front seats. so far i have unplugged the yellow harnesses and gave them and clean with some wd40 and adjusted the hight of the front seats up and down but srs light is still on.

one of the rear seat belts retracts very slowly, would that cause the srs light to come on? we've had child car seats in the back for a couple of years now and was wondering if the seat belts in the back being continually open would cause the problem?

I think acceleration sensor tells to srs sytem which air bags need to explode? But sure there should be ESP on too?

Belt retractor issue is one like child sensor and it's wirings. Like said star would give more accurate codes, it could be that your code reader cannot detect all faults now, or is giving wrong code... Back belts don't have sensors.

You do have the plugs on the rear of the bar with the sockets on, I am sure the actual pads etc plug in onto that.

There is one huge problem in that the lamp will not go away once you have fixed it, it has to be turned off on STAR

Hi mersum1es,

There is no ESP lights on just the srs. I'll have to google what star is but guessing its main dealer?

Some indies have star too. Like Malc says, it could be ghost of old fault.

The SRS came back as the fault is still current.

This is usually the occupancy sensor - aka B48 - in the front passenger seat that has failed.
A very common fault.

Hi,

The srs light is on all the time it doesnt matter if someone is sitting on the passenger seat or not, could it still be the B48 sensor?

Yes if sensor wire is cut, sensor broken or connector loose.

Most probably, wire is often broken where is goes inside the bench cushions, and someone is sitting on it (inside when no load on seat). Double check connectors first. Good pictorial instructions in US forum (W210, W211 in slightly more difficult what I've heard).

You should be able to measure something on a ohmmeter
