The foot operated handbrake (if you will) on my 2002 C-class coupe is getting sticky when I am trying to release it. I am having to pull the lever with my hand and pull the footbrake up with my toe in order to release it. It tends to only be like this the first time I use the car each day but is a bit annoying. Any ideas on how this can be fixed?! Thanks.:)

Sounds like somethign is preventing the foot part of the mechanism from releasing. Maybe a tad oil on the pivot point may free it? Or is the mechanism usinmg a spring? THat may have given up the ghost.

Remove your rear seat cushion. (they just flip up) Remove covering plate on the floor of the car (8mm and one 13mm nut). Here you will find the adjuster. Use some penertrating lube and work it into the mechanism. It can be adjusted too which can often help with your problem. Try and leave at least 4 or 5 clicks on the pedal.

I think it should have more clicks. I had a non Mercedes lose all braking due to the handbrake being tightened to only 3 clicks (should have been 7 on that car)

At PDI the 203 has 6-7 clicks but 210's had 3-5.

I alway set them to this.

Alot of garages are stuck in the past where 3 or 4 clicks was the norm. Things have changed since then. Its quite important that it is right (or close). The last thing you want is your brakes binding.
I've had vehicles where 1 click would stop it on a cliff, and other vehicles where 47 clicks later and a wasp landing on the roof will send it rolling.
