Hello all, my name is Vasilis and this is my first post here in need of some advice.
I'm not sure whether I should have posted this on the technical section, it's mre of the story of me and a friend trying to get our hands on a w202 with some advice thrown into it as well. So the story goes:
A colleague of mine has move to Tailand for a yeart and left a 2002 C200 W202 behind, parked on the street outside his house. The counsil ahs suddenly decided to implement parking permits and he decided he couldn't be hassled with all this since he is away and wants to sell the car. His sister gave me the keys and documentation with a view to taking it to my house (where I have off-road secure parking) with a view to selling it for him.
Now the problem started with the car alarm going off every now and then while still parked at his place. Obviously the battery was dead (around 3 months now since the car last moved). They called a "mechanic" and he could not gain access to the boot to jump start the car or charge/change the battery. Hence the quotation marks on the word mechanic because I (having a 6cyl 3 series BMW which also has the battery in the boot and power terminal under the bonnet) did 5 minutes of research on the internet and found out where the terminal on the merc was.
So I went to the car, armed with my jump leads, unlocked the dricer's door with the blade key of the fob, opened the bonnet, plugged in my car and 2 minutes later popped the boot in the merc by using the button in the centre console. All was going well until then.
I then moved my car at the rear of the merc (had to knock on the doors of the neighbours and find out whose car was parked behind, great fun), connected the merc's battery onto my terminal and let them connected for about 15 minutes. I then started the merc, waitied 5 minutes, pulled the leads out from the battery and surely enough the merc after about half a minute stalled and died.
I gave it another try, had my mate disconnect the leads while I was revving the merc in Park position (an auto) and as soon as I let go it stalled again. And that's where the real problem begins: It would not start at all. not because of low battery, the cars were connected again, but it seems like an immobiliser has kicked in? I would turn the key all the way to the 3rd position and the car made no attempt to start.
I thought fine, i'll take the battery away, charge it and come back. I removed the battery, shut the boot (and as you can understand this was the last time I saw the inside of the boot), locked all the doors manually and went home and charged the battery for 2 days straight.
Went back to the Merc yesterday to find that the fob will go into the ignition but will not rotate at all (remember the car has now gone 2 days without battery in it). I plug my car to the bonnet terminal but this time although the clocks light up, the windows and surely enough the boot popper do NOT work!
So here's my problem. What is happening with the car alarm? why does the fob not turn in the ignition? do I need to re-sync the fob somehow? I gues once I get the fob to work again then I should be able to open the boot with the button and then re-connect the charged and healthy battery and be on my way?
Apologies for the long-winded post but I had to be thorough so that I give you all the parameters of the fault. Any help will be much appreciated, if I get it to work my friend will buy it off my colleague because he really liked it (it's a black sport with silver leather).
Many Thanks in advance!
