vito 112cdi 2002
Hi
Im having a real conundrum my vito 2.2cdi 02modle won't heat up passed 40 on the temp gauge

First garage I went to said it was the thermostat

Went for a second opinion at another garage they said it was the auxiliary water heater not working and bringing the engine up to temperature.

So what should I do ?

What do you lot reckon

The aux heater doesn't kick in ever cant hear ot and it doesn't feel warm.
It lights up on the dash but thats about all it does.

At the the moment inclined to go with the aux heater opinion

Oh and a little bit of history batter was recently removed and pollen filter pulled out to increase air flow

Hi
Malcom

Instructions would be great

Can ask why you would go thermostat over auxiliary heater ?

And if my thermostat was broken do you think it could not my aux heater out

And do you thinkit would come up on a diagnostic scan

Thanks again for your help

If this is the electric block heater, they fail all the time and go short circuit, and nothing to do with the water part.

Do you have the first 3 engine numbers please

The auxiliary heater
This what I can tell you its small diesel power unit under the van.
I havent heard it run yet or felt heat on its exhaust.
Im pretty sure it heats water to bring the engine \cab up to temperature quicker on cold days.
It has an on off button on the dash that lights when press it in the symbol on the button is wavey arrows going up to a +.

Here another thought even if it was switched off it should still become warmer than 40 after been driven for 20 minutes right ?

Thanks again

That's a pre heater, it runs before you start the van.
Interested in that as I am planning on fitting on in mine.
Take a picture.

Would a broken thermostat register on the fault codes ? And
Same for aux water heat would it show on the fault codes
?

Ok so where I am right now

Took the van out for a longish ride got it up to 80 after 15-20 minutes
If the thermostat is stuck open could it reach those temperatures?
Cool off quick enough as well I'm gunna probably put the to a garage and just have it done this week

I'm expecting the new stat to be £50 and labour an hours worth say £40-45
Am I been realistic ?
