Soooo you left the car in its position, then disconnected the cables one at a time.
When you reconnected the cables, which one did you connect first..?

I can hear you all saying “ why did he disconnect the positive???”
My only excuse is , it was cold and snowing and the positive was closest to me

I still don`t believe that you disconnect a positive terminal affect something to ignition circuit. I am thinking it may be an poor connection in ignition barrel. Give a try.

Sorry mate , but some ideas pop out after the second Vodka ;) , what was the reason to disconnect the battery?
Did you have had a lazy starter motor? Can you or your friend bypass the starter motor relay (between fuses 10 and 11 ). The key must be on position 2.
