With everyone having issues with substitute lights and bulb warnings, I got the bulb warning light come on today.

Now... It's driving me mad.

I've checked EVERYTHING.

Indicators, hazard flashers, reverse and tail lights. I've only got one fog light on the back but there's no bulb in the other one and it hasn't flagged up before. The remaining one works.

Then, there's the headlights, all fine there.

I recently replaced the tail lamp bulb on the passenger side, with a Mercedes part. Nothing askew there.

I'm hoping the W124 is too old for SAM's and so on, so what's up?

I really have checked everything. There is NOTHING wrong. After a restart, it can go away and not come back.

I'm really not sure what's up with it.

Number plate lights are the favourite

Try replacing the rear sidelights bulbs first. Then go through the car replacing bulbs in pairs till you find the problem. If you can't find a problem then the bulb failure relay is probably kaput

At what point does the failure lamp come on?

Whenever it wants. It only happened when it got cold.

It comes on sometimes when there's no lights on.

The number plate lights are fine as are ALL bulbs on the car

Just went to the shop and back, nothing came on.

Hi,
It might be worth checking that all the bulbs have been replaced with the correct voltage/Watt. Had this problem with mine and it took me a while to find out that I was replacing like for like but when I checked the bulb chart in the handbook the previous owner has put in the wrong rating replacement.

I'll give it a clean up with some wire wool.

Cheers.
i think it was one of the terminal was sticking down when the bulb was pushed in but seemed to make intermittent contact & the dash light would come on with a mind of it's own :D

If it comes on when driving without the lights on the this reads as a brake lamp fault, do check the ground / earthing wires
