Hi guys and girls,
I'm looking into buying a CLK 280 or 350 cabriolet, or maybe even a late 320 as I've seen them in the facelift model.
•Any advice on what I should be looking for in these motors would be welcome
•I seen some with partial history going for reasonable money, or should I steer clear?
• What are the hoods like on these? Are they prone to leaking
• also servicing costs?
• real world fuel economy?

Hi

A good one is a good car.
What's your budget?

Familiarise yourself with the issues on some early engines (search on here) as they are uneconomic to fix.

Go for late as possible and if possible, one with the AMG sports kits as that helps with looks and value.
Fuel economy of either V6 isn't great (low to mid 20s around town, low to mid 30s on a run)
Sound good though.....
Engines are not really stressed so are reliable if serviced (including ATF change after 5 years).
A good MB indi will look after you and the car for reasonable costs (its not a budget car or brand though....)

Comand sat nav is good, cars are generally reliable but check the hood (several times) both for operating and and tears etc.
Just traded mine in and got an e class coupe, but don't regret having a CLK 280 convertible. It looked, was and went, great.

Ok thanks for the advice.
I was looking at the E Class as well but a bit beyond my budget. Although there are some great deals out there but I dubious when there too cheap.
I've found an 08 CLK280 cabriolet AMG sport with all the toys with 95k on the clock from a dealer for £6500.
I wonder how open to haggling the dealer's are?

In the middle of a cold, long winter, very open I would suggest.....

Price feels high to me, but the mileage shouldn't be an issue if serviced and the ATF has been changed a couple of years ago

Actually, that price could be okay, it's less than I got trade for mine in Nov (09 with 64k on it)

But you're buying a vert in the bleak mid winter, so you're in a strong position....

ATF and filter change is at 37500k miles , good negotiating point if it hasn't been done .

So ATF is Auto Transmission Fluid. What filters are you talking about? Sorry I really don't know anything about these cars that's why I'm on here.
Cheers

Thanks. I take it having the ATF and filter is going to be expensive plus essential?
Thanks

Had a '57 plate CLK350 Sport in Obsidian Black with Cream leather, lovely car, incredibly smooth, had all the toys on. Great engine in that car can highly recommend.
