Hi to everyone, and thanks to Tom for sorting my E mail problem. Now then,I'll try to keep this brief and apologies if it's a double post-my first one seems to have vaporised.Right, C200 Esprit 1999 petrol manual won't start. It's only getting a brief pulse at the solenoid-bridging solenoid terminal to starter feed results in a good healthy engine cranking, but will not fire.Sent starter to be tested -it came back with new brushes and tested OK.when refitted, fault still there.Checked solenoid resistance-0.4ohms!.Suggests 30A.draw-or have I missed something? So.if anyone can point me in the right direction,it'd decrease my stress level tremendously. Thanks for reading(if you've got this far!

Have you checked or changed the flywheel or crankcase sensor

Hi,Xtractorfan, thanks for replying. No,I haven't checked those.I think I can work out where the flywheel sensor might be,but am I correct in thinking that the crank sensor will be in the vicinity of the bottom pulley?.Do I have both? Also, would you be able to tell me how I can check these-would it be a resistance check,or does it have to be substitution?

OK,I managed to locate the flywheel sensor, removed it and checked resistance-it showed 1.05K ohms over several attempts(to try and see if it was intermittent) .Does anyone know if this reading is reasonable?

Thanks

JG.

Autodata gives the reading as 680-1200 ohms so your's is within range.

not sure on the set up with this year but could be the over voltage relay kicking in & stoping you from starting look at ovp relay posts

Thank you both for your replies. It's good to know that the flywheel sensor can now be disregarded.Right, about this ovp relay, where does it live, and what does it do exactly, please.

OK,sorry, jumped in there will now look at OVP relay posts.
thankyou for responding.
JG.

Update out of courtesy on a dormant post-some of you may have seen activity on this on another forum, but anyway-what was an extremely perplexing problem (for me) turned out to be a faulty key.Hope this saves someone some time and money. Thanks to all who replied.
