My Dad purchased his first Mercedes in 1964. A 200 saloon in white which he had shipped out to the Middle East from the factory in Germany. (Wish I still had it) He followed that up over the years with a 280, then a 300 and his last one was 230 estate. I can not remember him ever having a problem with any of them at any time. My first Merc was a 2014 1.8 coupe which I loved, then a Clk for my wife which was good fun although we did have a problem with the electric roof glass which meant the entire roof had to be renewed, luckily, paid by Mercedes warranty. My last one was a C63 saloon. What an amazing car. I never stopped smiling when driving it . The newer engine . Had it for three years and never had a single problem. Only sold it because I was offered a really good price for it. I definitely miss it. I am now thinking of purchasing purely for fun, a 1988 SL coupe 300. (R107) what are your thoughts on this model? I shall only use it for a couple of thousand miles per year at most.

Rust is the only real issue - although parts are becoming more of an issue along with people knowledgeable about the fuel injection systems
